Chemical Peel

A chemical peel is a technique used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck or hands. A chemical solution is applied to the skin that causes it to exfoliate and eventually peel off. The new, regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. The new skin is also temporarily more sensitive to the sun.

Chemicals peels sting but do not cause a great deal of pain.

 

What are the complications or potential side effects of a chemical peel?

  • Temporary or permanent change in skin colour, particularly for women on birth control pills, who subsequently become pregnant or have a history of brownish facial discolouration.
  • Scarring
  • Reactivation of cold sores

How often should the treatment be repeated:

  • usually minimum of 6 peels spaced out 2 – 3 weeks apart. This depends what percentage of acids (such as glycolic and salicylic) was used.
  • to maintain your results from the peel, you can continue to do them as frequently as one peel per month, or a little as one every change in season (4x/year)

 

Conditions which preclude the use of the Chemical Peeling:

  • Exposure of the skin to the sun (very sunny summer),
  • skin allergies,
  • active herpes,
  • tendency to keloid
  • Condition after surgery of the face (for 2 months)
  • pregnancy, breastfeeding,
  • numerous signs of melanocytes,
  • numerous telangiectasia,
  • state after cryotherapy (up to 6 months)
  • autoimmune diseases (collagen, pemphigus)
  • skin irritated, damaged (erosions, przeczosy, abrasions),
  • severe forms of acne (pimples numerous cysts) -wymagają previous drug therapy,
  • oral therapy vitamin derivatives. A (Roaccutane) Requires at least a half-year break.
